You don’t need a lot of money to beautify your home. The following are some decorating ideas that will give your home that nice, comfy country look.
Start with the Colors
The best choices are natural hues like oatmeal, brown, cream and chocolate brown. You can complement these basic colors with different shades of blues, greens or reds. To set up a theme, use two or three main colors. Once you’ve chosen the basic colors, you can add bits of the other colors as well.
Fabrics
There are many types of fabrics to choose from, but here are some suggestions. Put some colorful quilts on the beds. Put some hand-stitched pillows on the couches and chairs. Put some crocheted dollies on the tables. That decorating idea is also applicable to side and end tables.
To give those linoleum and hardwood floors a country look, spread out some toothbrush or braided rugs. Be sure to spread these fabrics and colors throughout the home. This will provide your warm with a sense of warmth.
Furnishings
Antiques are most suitable for a country-inspired setting. Even if you can’t afford those pricey antiques, any time-worn piece will be sufficient. This is assuming of course, that the furniture is still intact.
A few dents are all right though. In terms of wood type, good choices are pine, walnut, mahogany and oak. Depending on the color scheme you chose, other wood types may be more applicable.
Decorations
Handcrafted items are the ideal decors for the tables and dressers. Hand-painted trimmings are also recommended. You can also use floral prints to give it a more comfortable feel. If you use a lot of colors and patterns for the pillows, you can break it up with a single neutral color.
Other accessories you can display are antique plates, bowls and other cookware. Use quilts and cross-stitch for the walls. Framed photos, especially black and white, will look great on the walls too.
Architecture
If you’re designing the house, here are some suggestions. Use hardwood floors; for dark areas, put some colorful rugs there. A brick or stone fireplace in the living room is recommended. Ideally, the ceilings should be high with exposed beams.
Using these simple decorating ideas gives your homes more than a country look; it makes the place more welcoming. It also gives you and your guests a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
