It’s not enough to paint walls and put furniture near it. Add items to make it more interesting. Put pillows on the couch or books on the table. You can add scented candles, figurines etc on the side table. At the same time, don’t put too many items on display; it can be confusing. Don’t put pillows on chairs where people have to sit.
How to Use Slipcovers Properly
Use these to conceal worn fabric. But make sure the slipcover blends in with the design. Choose slipcovers that are a lot like the fabric so it doesn’t become too conspicuous. Do not use clear vinyl slipcovers.
Paintings and Sculptures
Another good home interior design idea is to hang paintings at walls. A large painting will be the focal point so make sure it stands alone. Don’t put mirrors alongside paintings.
If hanging paintings side by side, leave a few inches of space between them. If you have life sized statues or sculptures, they will look great in the living room or study room.
Lighting
Recessed lights are ideal for the kitchen. You can also place a lamp at the counter corner. The taller a lamp is the more light it will generate. Track lights are also worth considering for computer desks.
There is no need to use 100W bulbs for every room in the house. Good lights are essential for reading, but it’s not necessary in all the rooms. Use lighting to add ambience.
Trends Don’t Last
If you base your design on trends, you’ll be rearranging the furniture every couple of months or so. You will also have to buy new furniture to keep up with “what’s hot”. Instead go with a style that works regardless of the season.
Don’t Force Furniture to Fit
There’s no need to display all those family heirlooms if they don’t fit in. Some of those small antiques can be used for display, but can get rid of the rest. Remember, this is your home; it should reflect your style, no one else’s.
Finally, remember that home interior design ideas need not conform to tradition or rules. As long as you keep the aforementioned basic principles in mind, your design should come out looking all right.
