Home Interior Design
Home interior design isn’t about buying the most expensive furniture and appliances. It is about arranging the items you have in a manner that is attractive, coherent and practical. Lighting also plays a role in good home decor.
Make Things Convenient
Never sacrifice convenience for style. If it’s cold in your study room, position the desk near the heater. Have a portable fan nearby when it gets hot. Put lamps on the tables so you won’t have problems reading. You can still arrange the furniture so they look fine without becoming inconvenient.
Lighting Matters a Lot
An integral part of good home interior design is using lights to add drama and ambience to a room. When lighting, focus on what is necessary. If you are in the study room, add the lighting in the spot where it is needed the most.
The family room, TV room, kitchen and dining room all require different lighting. Here’s a tip: use dimmer switches for every fixture. This will allow you to adjust the intensity easily.
Buy the Right Sized furniture
Buying a furniture piece that’s too big will cramp the room. Buying one that is too small is just as bad; you’ll be forced to buy extra furniture to cover the empty space, affecting the room’s overall look.
For this reason, it’s important that you take the room measurements. Keep this figure in mind when you shop for furniture. You can then compare the furniture dimensions with the room space to see how it will fit.
Avoid Using Too Many Patterns
A simple rule is this: choose one pattern (it’s typically a large print). Find a smaller print that complements the large one. Get one more plaid or stripe, and no more.
If you must have another fabric, get a weave or solid colored texture rather than a print or pattern. The bottom line is you must plan the colors and patterns.
How to Place a Rug
Rugs should be placed under tables and chairs. Preferably the rugs should be placed below the front legs of tables, sofas or chairs. By placing the rug in this manner, you can use its color to fuse the different furniture together. Do not put rugs in the center of the room, especially when unanchored. This can cause accidents.
The hallmark of really good home interior design is coordination of furniture, lighting and space management. Using the tips suggested, you can implement these in your home and make it more pleasing to the eyes.
