Home Interior Wall Decor

Part and parcel of good design is the home interior wall decor. Even if you surround the house with beautiful furniture, poorly decorated walls will stick out like a sore thumb. Follow these suggestions to liven up those walls.

Paint the Walls

Painting can do a lot more than just put color on the walls. Try painting dramatic and contrasting colors for a unique appearance. If you want dark paint on light walls, you’ll need to apply several coats of paint.

Multiple coats of paint are also necessary if you want to do the reverse. When you’ve applied the base paint, use sponge techniques. Using textured paint can simulate the look of wallpaper.

Use Wallpaper

Wallpapers have always been popular as home interior wall decor. They are available in a wide variety of styles, colors and patterns. The traditional wallpapers have floral patterns, while the modern ones are more abstract.

However, you need to be careful about the wallpaper you choose. It must be coordinated with the furniture. For example, you probably don’t want to use fun colorful wallpaper if antiques will be displayed near it.

Using Wallpaper and Paint

By utilizing wainscoting techniques you can cover half the wall with paint and the other with wallpaper. For the adventurous, you can try painting the lower half and wallpaper the upper. You can also do the reverse. When you’re finished, add some molding strip by the two parts to finish it off.

A variation is to paint a couple of walls and add wallpaper to the others. The colors and textures you use can make the walls visually arresting. Here, the only limit is your creativity.

Hanging Items on the Walls

You can add plates, framed photos, a collection of antique candlesticks etc. Any of these can be used to beautify walls.

Here are some other ideas: if you used textured paint or wallpaper, put a single item there. A mirror, print or painting will be fine. Place the object in the center of just off the center. This will add interest to the wall.

If the wall paint is simple, you can try adding objects on the walls. Don’t forget about the color coordination of the walls and object there.

These are some simple home interior wall decor ideas you can try. What’s important is that you plan and think it over. Don’t rush into painting until you have an idea of what you want to do.
