Interior Design Lamps

Interior design lamps do more than just light a room; they can also be used to set the mood and add ambience. To put those lamps to good use, here are some facts you should know about lighting.

Types of Lighting

General lighting is the main lighting used in a room. It is the main source of illumination in a room. Accent lighting is the supporting light. It is used to generate visual points of interest in a room.

Task lighting is used to bring illumination to a specific activity.
For example, task lighting can be used to illuminate a desk for reading.

Interior Design Lamp Placement

There are many kinds of lamps and there are many ways to arrange them. Table lamps and floor lamps can be placed close to seating. Having a pair of lamps on the tables at the sofa sides is a good design choice.

You can also put lamps on either side of the bed. You can install wall-mounted lamps by the bed. To control lighting, add dimmers to the wall switches. If you want more light, use lamp shade made of sheer fabric.

To concentrate lighting down or up, a lamp shade of metal is recommended. Track lights are useful, but they often need professional installation.

Choosing Lamp Styles

There are many types of lamps, and the one you choose is a matter of personal opinion and taste. If it isn’t possible to match the lamp with the room decor, try to coordinate their styles and appearance. For instance, classic style lamps should be used for classically designed rooms. Similarly, a contemporary looking lamp is ideal for a 21st century style room.

Height and Proportion

The lamp dimensions also have to be considered thoroughly. In simple terms, the lamp should be proportional to the table. The lamp height should be based on the height of the table and the seating. The lampshade’s lower rim has to be between the eye level and the shoulder of the individual sitting by the lamp.

The lamp shade should never go beyond the table surface’s diameter. If necessary, take the lamp to the store to choose the right dimensions relative to the base.

There are no hard and fast rules about how many interior design lamps can be used in a room. The general rule is that large rooms should have multiple lamps. This isn’t just for aesthetic reasons, but to keep light consistent.
