Interior Design Window Treatments
There are many options for interior design window treatments. While there are numerous choices available, the treatments can be divided into two main categories: the hard and soft types.
Hard Window Styling
These include specialty glass applications, screens, shutters and blinds. If you prefer blinds, the choices available are woven wood, verticals, mini blinds, slat blinds and many more. By far the most popular are woven wood and slat blinds. Wood blinds are usually made from horizontal wood slats 2 inches wide. They are sold in a variety of colors.
Shutters are still preferred by many as they are always in style, regardless of the season. These can be made from faux wood or wood. They have good insulating value. However, they can be hard to install and can be costly.
Screens come in many styles. Two of the most popular are grills and Japanese style shojis. The shojis are frames made of wood fitted with rice paper panes. The shoji screens are frequently used in Asian inspired rooms. But they can also be used in rooms with a minimalist style.
Grills have been around for a long time and come in a variety of styles and patterns. Grills are used in traditional
Middle Eastern and Spanish homes.
The specialty glass applications include liquid crystal technology, frosted glass, glass blocks, beveled and stained glass. Stained glass is handy for windows that offer undesirable views. The liquid crystal windows can be changed from opaque to clear with a switch.
Soft Interior Design Window Treatments
The soft treatments include using fabrics like valances, shades, curtains and draperies. Draperies control the light and temperature coming into the room. Curtains are similar to draperies but are made from lighter material. They are used mostly for decoration and by those who want a casual look to the room.
Shades are available in a variety of styles, including the interior sun control shades, roller shades, pleated, Austrian and Roman shades. The sun control shades area capable of minimizing heat and glare without blocking out the sun or your view.
Valances are strictly for decoration; they can be fashioned into jabots, cascades and swags. The cornice is a variant of the valance and made from foam or wood. Fabric is used to cover them.
These interior design window treatments may be combined or you can just opt for one style. Either way, make certain the window style is in harmony with the rest of the room.
