Interior Wall Murals

Creating interior wall murals is not as difficult as it seems. Prepare the following materials and follow these steps to make one yourself.

Required Materials

Pencils or erasable crayons
Printed images
Acrylic paints
Overhead projectors
Butcher papers
Transparencies
Plastic containers
Scissors
Paintbrushes
Masking tape

Step 1

Create a color copy of the picture or drawing for painting reference.

Step 2

Create a black and white photocopy of the drawing. Use a copy machine to scale to the desired size.

Step 3

A black and white transparency of the design is required. A copy machine software or one at the copy store can do this. Put the transparency over the overhead projector.

Step 4

Turn on the projector to the desired wall section. Adjust the projector until the size and position is right.

Step 5

Outline the wall design using a pencil.

How to Use a Grid to Transfer the Design

Step 1

Prepare the image following steps 1 to 3 described earlier. Make a grid over the photocopy. Scale this to the required size with the butcher paper.

Step 2

To continue making the interior wall murals, slice every image with the scissors. Start with the biggest one.

Step 3

Apply masking tape to secure the cut paper onto the wall area you prefer.

Step 4

Using your pencil, trace over the image. Tape the smaller shapes at the right spots in the bigger outlines. Trace at the smaller shapes’ edges with the pencil. Draw more details if you prefer.

How to Paint the Murals

Step 1

Choose the appropriate acrylic colors. Put the paints in separate containers.

Step 2

Paint the big areas with a wide, flat brush. Shade and blend by painting on top of the colors before they dry up. For details, a round paintbrush will be needed. Be careful when painting so they come out all right.

Tips

Interior latex paint can be applied on large sections too. Acrylic is somewhat transparent, so multiple coatings may be needed. Always position the overhead projector to the front of the wall. Otherwise, the image will appear distorted.

You can also utilize an episcope projector rather than the overhead projector. The instructions will differ per product, so read the guide thoroughly. Follow all the instructions to avoid mistakes

Adding interior wall murals is an excellent way to add pizzazz to a dull looking wall or room. Although you can use any image you like, it’s more fun to come up with your own. It gives the whole project that personal touch.
