Room Dividers

Those who want to buy room dividers have numerous styles to choose from. While the Japanese shoji screens are the most widely known, there are also Asian, shutter and European dividers available.

Japanese Shoji Screens

These are available in a variety of colors and designs. In terms of materials, construction and finish, you have the most options here. The paper panels are preferred by many because they are portable.

If you want 4 to 6 panels and those over 7 ft high, the lighter models are worth considering. The rice paper panels let light through, producing beautiful diffused light. These screens are reproductions of the Edo period styles. These are constructed from kiln dried lumber.

Shutter Style Wood Slat

These are ideal folding privacy screens. They can also let light come through. But many models also have blinds, letting you choose whether to let light in or not. These often come in neutral and simple designs. This means they can be used for cabins, urban apartments and other places.

These room dividers work well for European and American style homes. These screens will require heavier and sturdier wood frames. These are also used as office partitions.

Asian Style Screens

These are relatively light dividers. In terms of practicality, it is equal to the Japanese paper screens. Asian screens come in different styles like spun plant fiber panel shades, wicker, rattan and woven grass.

These are lighter than wood screens but not as light as shoji screens. These screens are made to block out sound and light. These screens are also perfect for dividing rooms in sections.

European Style Screens

These dividers are substantial but they are still portable. These are synthetic leather dividers and covered with textured vinyl faux animal skin. These European screens come in various styles including zebra skin vinyl, crocodile skin, leather, alligator skin and faux snake skin.

Aside from blocking out light, these opaque screens are capable of sound absorption. This is a good choice for studio apartments or dorms. These screens are known for their colorful designs.

For formal European and American interior design, dark color screens are preferable. But there are also dividers available in white, gold and ivory. These colors are suitable for brightly colored rooms.

Room dividers are perfect not just for partitioning but also for beautifying rooms. Whether your interior design has a European, American or Asian motif, there is a divider for you.
